How to Stay Safe While Photographing Real Estate

As photographers, we often are on shoots alone, especially in Real Estate. Here are a few ideas to keep you and your equipment safe.

Whenever possible, don't go alone! You are less vulnerable if you take someone with you. There is safety in numbers.

When entering an unoccupied home, clear each room before you shoot. I remember once I entered a home that I thought was empty, and someone was sleeping in the space.

Also, remember that once you enter a property, lock the door behind you. On one occasion, I entered a home without locking the door, and someone walked in behind me while I was shooting. It was startling!

Be aware of your surroundings; if you feel uneasy, give in to it. There may be a reason.

Get photographers' insurance. As photographers, we often travel with a lot of expensive equipment. A photographer from San Francisco was followed home and robbed of his photography equipment after returning home from a wedding. Remember, safety comes first! No equipment is worth getting hurt over.
