How to Adjust to Change

What we have come to understand and accept as normal working practices for photographers is rapidly being changed by Covid -19. These changes may very well become our new normal. If this is the case we must accept it, adapt to it, and change with it so that we are able to thrive as photographers. Now is an excellent time to reconsider how to best operate your photography business, so that you can keep working during the pandemic. First, evaluate the changes taking place, then determine how those changes will impact your business, and adjust accordingly. Embrace the changes enthusiastically, this will be reflected in the service you provide to your clients. Use this time to improve your business. Use it as an opportunity to provide better service. This pandemic has changed the way photographers think about, and conduct their business. No matter your personal position on vaccinations, or masking, photographers are required to follow the protocols in the area they will be working.

Vaccinated / Masking:

Recently, many of my clients have been asking if I am vaccinated, and do I wear a mask while working? By following all protocols, I am making my clients a priority, and providing good customer service. Because I also do real estate photography, I must also follow the MLS protocols, it may differ depending on the area I am working.

Event Size:

Photographers must consider how many individuals will be in attendance at the function they are shooting to ensure that Covid safety recommendations are followed.

Cancellations:

This is a time that photographers are forced to navigate those dreaded “cancellations.” Many of you have experienced more cancellations in the past several years than ever before. I have! The most valuable advice I am able to give concerning the loss of potential income, is to “trust the process.” Trust what has gotten you this far. Continue to work your business plan. Remember, what you are currently experiencing is temporary. Take this time to enjoy your passion, (photography) and trust that you will adjust to your new normal.

Change:

When you embrace change, you position your business to successfully survive those changes. By accepting change, you are able to adapt your business to those changes more quickly, and effectively. By resisting change,it does not affect that there will be no change. It just prolongs your response. When you adjust to change, you continue to grow in your craft.
