How We Started Our Photography Business

Several years ago, the church I was employed by for over eight years placed me on part-time. Seeing the writing on the wall, my wife and I started doing photography as a way to decompress and relax. As time went on, we began to get asked to do photography at different functions for friends and family. The church eventually fired me two years later, stating "they wanted to go in a different direction"!

Thankfully by now, our business was well on its way. Real Estate became our bread and butter. It came naturally to us since we enjoyed visiting new home developments to see the latest models and view how they were decorated. I remember running through a new home with my video camera as Carole stood as a lookout to do a walk-through video; actually, it was a run-through video. Oh, the things we would do to get our portfolio started; however, I wouldn't advise you to do the same. It's been several years since that time, and our business is doing well. We've been blessed beyond imagination!

There is a well-known proverb, "Necessity is the mother of invention"! This means that the primary driving force for anything new is a need. Would I have wanted not to be let go from a job I loved? Probably not! However, in hindsight, I needed to be let go to get to where I am today. Something new!

Remember, it's never too late to reinvent yourself. Find something you love and do it! That's how we started our photography business.
